Robert Downey, Jr. Rallies The Marvel Fans For One Last 'Endgame' Box Office Push But It's Probably Not Enough

As of the most recent numbers, “Avengers: Endgame” currently sits about $37 million behind “Avatar” for the all-time worldwide box office crown. When we’re talking about the difference between $2.751 billion (‘Endgame’) and $2.788 billion (“Avatar”), this doesn’t seem like a huge mountain to climb. But then again, $37 million is still $3 million more than the entire domestic run of “The Favourite” from last year. So, you know, it’s not insignificant.

Seemingly, it’s this desire for box office record supremacy that is partially driving Marvel Studios to “re-release” (Quote-unquote, due to the fact it never left theaters. It’s more of a re-expansion, but I digress.) “Avengers: Endgame” with several minutes of additional footage used for a new post-credits scene. And with that in mind, Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, Jr, has decided to take to social media to rally the troops and get ‘Endgame’ over that “Avatar” hump.

He tweeted, “Wanna make history? The #GAME has yet to #END!”

As of this writing, his tweet has been up for approximately 24 hours and has earned almost 73,000 “favorites.” If you do the math, with the current average ticket price being about $10, that means those fans only equal about $730,000. Only $36.27 million to go!

Of course, Downey isn’t the only one hyping up ‘Endgame’ for the final box office push. Marvel has been promoting the re-expansion quite a bit. Sites, like this one, have been talking about what to expect with the end-credits scenes. (The basic idea is that there will be an introduction from one of the Russos, a Stan Lee Tribute (RIP), and only a brief deleted scene that will most likely be an alternate introduction of Smart Hulk.)

Will a few extra scenes (that will also eventually show up on the Blu-ray) at the end of the film drive folks back to the theaters to watch ‘Endgame’ one last time? We’ll find this weekend. Honestly, it doesn’t sound like there’s anything that’s a “must-see” for fans, especially with the Blu-ray coming only weeks later. $37 million isn’t a huge number when we’re talking billions, but in this case, it might as well be $300 million because either way, this is likely a losing battle.

Brace yourselves, Marvel fanboys and fangirls, “Avengers: Endgame” is probably going to remain #2 all-time.
