Robert Pattinson Explains How He Almost Got Fired From 'Twilight'

It’s been nearly a decade since the world became enraptured with the romance between Bella and Edward in “Twilight.” Their moody courtship became a cultural phenomenon, Team KStew and Team RPatz was born, and Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson saw their young careers take off. However, it appears that the producers of the YA flick thought Edward was a bit too morose in the early stages of filming.

Doing the rounds for the absolutely excellent “Good Time,” Pattinson swung by “Howard Stern” and revealed that he was nearly canned from the movie because he was taking Edward down a path that was a bit too dark.

“If you’re going into a relationship with someone, the way to make it really intense is if you can barely talk to each other, you can barely touch each other, it’s incredibly serious all the time,” Pattinson explained. “That’s what teenage relationships are. But everyone kind of wanted it to be, like, ‘No, they should just be, like, happy and having fun. That’s what people want.’ ”

In fact, the actor’s agents were so worried, they came to the set to talk to him, saying, “You have to do the opposite of what you’re doing now or you’re going to get fired today.”

To help Pattinson find the right balance for his character, he was given a copy of “Twilight,” and passages where Edward was smiling was highlighted in one color, where he was bummed out were highlighted in a different color. It all got sorted out in the end, allowing Pattinson to ride out the role that would change his life. [AV Club/Vulture]
