So, That 'I Am Legend' Sequel Is Becoming Possibly More Real As Warner Bros. Officially Moves Forward

nullWarner Bros. has made a shocking, stunning announcement today that they would like to continue making lots of money by making a sequel to a hit movie. No. Fucking. Way.

Deadline reports that the studio has officially hired Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to develop a followup (or more likely, prequel) to the 2007 smash hit "I Am Legend." Of course, this movie has been rumored for years, with D.B. Weiss ("Game Of Thrones") among the first to be hired to pen a draft. It was only last spring that the first film's director Francis Lawrence declared to MTV that the prequel was dead, saying, "No, I don't think that's ever going to happen." Looks like he didn't get the memo on this one.

So this time around Arash Amel (the forthcoming films "The Expatriate" with Aaron Eckhart and the Grace Kelly tax haven drama "Grace Of Monaco") is going to be writing the script, so yeah, we'll see where this goes. For all you nerds getting excited, hold the phone. Since this involves Will Smith, this is the first step in probably what will be a long development process as the actor tends to be super picky and choosy about what he stars in and has about a zillion projects on the go at any time.

And let's not forget Fox wants him for more "Independence Day" movies too, while Peter Berg keeps talking up "Hancock" sequels. Note to Arash: if you want this to get made, you might want to think about centering it around Jaden Smith instead.
