'Stan & Ollie' Exclusive Clip: John C. Reilly And Steve Coogan Bring The Physical Comedy To This Biopic

Laurel and Hardy are two of the most famous comedians of all time. The legendary duo became household names through their various films in the late-’20s and ‘30s. And thanks to the acting prowess of Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are getting the big screen treatment in the new biopic “Stan & Ollie.”

And in honor of the film’s upcoming release, we are proud to be able to share this exclusive clip from the film, showing just how great the two lead actors are at channeling the comedic chops of the famous duo. Frankly, not a lot of substance happens in the clip from the film, but that isn’t to say that nothing happens. In fact, much like the films of Laurel and Hardy, the real meat of the clip takes place between the dialogue bits, where the physical comedy shines.

As you can see in the footage, John C. Reilly is virtually unrecognizable in his role. But that doesn’t mean the signature facial expressions that the actor is known for are buried under prosthetics. And Coogan is equally perfect for his role and does most of the physical comedy in the clip, as he attempts to bring the bags to the front desk. Needless to say, if you enjoy this brief glimpse at the film, you’re in for a treat when the film hits theaters.

Here’s the synopsis:

Laurel & Hardy, one of the world’s great comedy teams, set out on a variety hall tour of Britain in 1953. Diminished by age and with their golden era as the kings of Hollywood comedy now behind them, they face an uncertain future. As the charm and beauty of their performances shines through, they re-connect with their adoring fans. The tour becomes a hit, but Stan & Ollie can’t quite shake the specter of Laurel and Hardy’s past; the long-buried ghosts, coupled with Oliver’s failing health, start to threaten their precious partnership. A portrait of the most tender and poignant of creative marriages, they are aware that they may be approaching their swan song, trying to rediscover just how much they mean to each other.
