Got a Tip?

‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ Will Hit IMAX Along With Every Disney & Marvel Action Tentpole Through 2015

J.J. Abrams,'Star Wars'

With promises that he’ll shoot on the fading 35mm film format, and employ a tasteful amount of CGI rather than bombarding our eyeballs with pixels, J.J. Abrams‘ “Star Wars: Episode 7” has one more trick up its sleeve: you’ll be able to see it in IMAX.

Disney announced today that they’ve re-upped their partnership with IMAX, with all the action tentpoles under their roof — which includes Marvel movies — getting the treatment on those special screens. So that means you’ll pay able to pay a few extra bucks to see “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Maleficent,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Tomorrowland” in the format. But here’s the question: will ‘Episode 7’ shoot in IMAX too?

You’ll recall that Abrams shot about 30 minutes worth of “Star Trek Into Darkness” footage in native IMAX, and last fall, rumors surfaced that the director would be using those bulky cameras again for ‘Episode 7.’  IMAX CEO Richard Gelford stated during an investor conference call: “We are talking to J.J. Abrams test now about the next ‘Star Wars’ being used with partly IMAX cameras.”

We’d put a good bet on that happening too. So yet another reason to get excited for “Star Wars: Episode 7” — now let’s just hope the script is as good as the technical wizardry behind it. [SuperHeroHype]
