'State Like Sleep' Trailer: Katherine Waterston & Michael Shannon Cross Paths In This New Mystery Thriller

Katherine Waterston is definitely on the verge of becoming a major film star. With roles in the new ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise, “Logan Lucky,” “Alien: Covenant,” and the recent “mid90s,” the actress is just waiting for her true breakout performance. Perhaps she’ll find that in her new film, “State Like Sleep,” where Waterston appears opposite acting powerhouse Michael Shannon.

The story of “State Like Sleep” is fairly straightforward on paper. A young widow investigates the life of her dead husband a year after he passes away unexpectedly. As you might imagine, the widow (Waterston) begins to realize that she knew very little about her husband, as she runs into some seriously shady people from his past, including a character played by Shannon.

The trailer does a great job of presenting the mystery, while also teasing that there’s going to be plenty of twists along the way. We saw the film at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, and while our review praised the lead actress’ performance, we were a little let down by the overall mystery. Of course, you can see for yourself, and be the real judge of that.

Joining Waterston and Shannon in the cast are Luke Evans, Michiel Huisman, and Mary Kay Place. The film is written and directed by Meredith Danluck.

“State Like Sleep” hits VOD on January 1, 2019 and select theaters on January 4, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

One year after her husband’s (Michiel Huisman) untimely death, a young widow (Katherine Waterston) receives an unsettling phone call that forces her to revisit the past.
