'Game Of Thrones': Taylor Swift Says Multiple Songs From Her Last Album Were Inspired By HBO's Series

Another day, another “Game of Thrones” story that doesn’t involve the actual plot of the series, and instead, is about fandom. Who would have thought that the final season of ‘Thrones’ would be so underwhelming and full of controversy that we’d rather talk about coffee cups and Taylor Swift?

Yes, the news today concerns Taylor Swift, who apparently is a superfan like the millions and millions of folks around the world. However, whereas we can only show our fandom by writing things on the internet or maybe wearing a silly t-shirt, Swift is able to construct an album around her love of “Game of Thrones.” And according to the pop star, that’s exactly what she did.

Speaking to EW, Swift opened up about how her last album, “Reputation,” was littered with ‘Thrones’-influenced songs.

“These songs were half based on what I was going through, but seeing them through a Game of Thrones filter,” Swift said. “‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is literally Arya Stark’s kill list. ‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums.”

She added, “‘I Did Something Bad’ I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger.”

The singer goes on to talk about her love of the series in even more detail, including meeting the series’ creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who also took the time to express their love of the singer in return. But it isn’t just with “Reputation” that Swift has found ‘Thrones’ influencing her music. It’s a lasting inspiration.

“My entire outlook on storytelling has been shaped by [‘Thrones’] — the ability to foreshadow stories, to meticulously craft cryptic storylines,” she said. “So, I found ways to get more cryptic with information and still be able to share messages with the fans. I aspire to be one one-millionth of the kind of hint dropper the makers of ‘Game of Thrones’ have been.”

But really, T-Swift news aside, all anyone wants to talk about is the coffee cup debacle. We aren’t going to go into detail, as it’s been covered quite extensively. However, in a recent appearance on “Conan,” star Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth) joked about the incident and blamed Emilia Clarke. After hearing of the accusation, let’s just say that Clarke wants the world to know she is most definitely not to blame.

“What a bastard!” Clarke said (via LA Times). “I don’t even drink Starbucks. I have no idea whose it was. Liam’s a cheeky one. The funny thing is in Belfast, there is no craft coffee selling Starbucks. Unless we’ve got the Americans in, some hotshot producer, and then we’ll have Starbucks lying around.”

She added, “You’ve never seen a ‘Game of Thrones’ cast member with a Starbucks in their hand because we don’t get them. We don’t get to be like, ‘Yo, somebody go out and get me a mocha choco latte.’ I’ve never had Starbucks.”

Any guesses about what we’ll be talking about come Monday? This Sunday’s episode figures to be the Battle of King’s Landing, with plenty of death and destruction to go around. But as with the other episodes, there will no doubt be a meme or controversy that seems to be the big story.
