'Tell It To The Bees' Trailer: Anna Paquin Stars In A Defiant Lesbian Romance

The last time most of us saw Anna Paquin, she was on “True Blood” fighting supernatural beings. But now, the Oscar-winning actress is making a return to the silver screen with a powerful love story. “Tell It To The Bees” looks to be a courageous romance about overcoming the sharp stings of adversity.

In “Tell It To The Bees,” Paquin plays Jean Markham, a doctor who moves into a small town. She feels like an outsider until she meets Lydia (Holliday Grainger), a financially struggling mother. After Jean has Lydia and her son stay at her house, both women have a relationship that makes them outcasts in their community.

The “forbidden romance” storyline may be something that we’ve seen time and time again. But in the hands of director Annabel Jankel, we may get a unique take on the same storyline. Its depiction of class and societal conservatism might be able to help it stand out from other romances. Plus, it’s never a bad thing to keep reminding viewers that love is love and we should defy anyone who tells us otherwise.

As for the two actresses bringing this moment to life, it’s likely they’ll do a splendid job. As an added bonus, the film also stars Kate Dickie who you might remember from “The Witch” as the main character’s demented mother. We’ll see if she’s playing someone a bit nicer and saner this time around.

Another thing that’s rather curious is the use of bees as a motif. What exact significance do they bear? What does the title mean? Will the film hurt us like a sharp bee sting once heartbreak potentially ensues?

Those are just a handful of questions we likely have which won’t be answered until the film is released.

“Tell It To The Bees” arrives on May 3.
