'The Acolyte': Jodie Turner-Smith Joins Leslye Headland's Mysterious 'Star Wars' Series

We are mere days away from the release of Lucasfilm’s latest foray into the galaxy far, far away, “Andor.” And as with every major franchise nowadays, the release of a new project just means there will be plenty of questions about what’s to come next. And boy howdy, Lucasfilm has a lot of “Star Wars” TV content on the horizon, including what might be the most mysterious (and thus, interesting) project, “The Acolyte.” But as we get closer to production, at least we’re getting more information about who might star in the cast of the outlier “Star Wars” series.

According to Deadline, Jodie Turner-Smith is the second person to join the cast of Lucasfilm’s upcoming “Star Wars” series, “The Acolyte.” Turner-Smith joins the previously announced Amandla Stenberg in the series that doesn’t have much information released yet. While we don’t know what characters these actors will be portraying, we know “The Acolyte” takes place well before the Skywalker Saga at the end of what is called the High Republic era. And judging by the title and font for the series, we are going to assume the series might follow a story set within the Dark Side of the Force. But that, of course, is just pure speculation.

Turner-Smith is probably best known for her work in the film “Queen & Slim.” She has also appeared in series such as “Anne Boleyn” and “The Last Ship.” Most recently, Turner-Smith co-starred in the critically-acclaimed film, “After Yang.”

“The Acolyte” is created and showrun by Leslye Headland, who is best known for her work on “Russian Doll.” A release date for the series has yet to be announced, but we know production is expected to begin sometime this fall.
