A two-year delay for any movie certainly doesn't help with the buzz, but in the case of "The Cabin In The Woods," it's not really the filmmaker's fault. Completed long ago, the horror picture wound up in the MGM bankruptcy mire, and it took a while for it to find its way out of the mess and headed into theaters this spring. But, not only is the movie finally seeing the light of day, the advance buzz has been very good. Indeed a couple Playlisters have already seen 'Cabin' and come back with surprisingly positive word.
To be sure, the plot, and even this new trailer, seems somewhat conventional. The basic premise is that five stock-character-type friends go into the woods and then encounter something nasty. We've seen it a million times, right? Well apparently the script — co-written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, and directed by the latter — turns all the conventions upside down in what is said to be a pretty nifty little film. Indeed, it's one that's at the top of our list for SXSW where it will premiere later this week. A new trailer has just dropped, showing the shenanigans that take place out in the woods as well as a brief hint at the strange twists that take the story in a bizarre, different direction. And hey, look at Chris Hemsworth pre-"Thor"!
The film premieres this Friday at SXSW, and opens on April 13th. Watch below. [ComingSoon/FearNet]
