2025 may end up being when Paul Walter Hauser breaks out. The comedic actor has potentially five films in theaters this year, including “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” “The Naked Gun” remake, and more.
But first comes “The Luckiest Man In America,” a film starring Hauser that had its festival debut last September at TIFF. Based on a true story, Hauser leads an intriguing ensemble cast as an unemployed man who went on an unprecedented winning streak on a 1980s game show.

Based on a true story, THE LUCKIEST MAN IN AMERICA is set in May 1984, when an unemployed ice cream truck driver from Ohio (Paul Walter Hauser) steps onto the game show Press Your Luck harboring a big secret: the key to endless amounts of money. His winning streak is threatened when the bewildered executives in the control room start to uncover his real motivations.
Along with Hauser, “The Luckiest Man In America” also stars Walton Goggins, Shamier Anderson, David Strathairn, and Maisie Williams. Patti Harrison, Brian Geraghty, Haley Bennett, and Johnny Knoxville round out the main cast.
Samir Oliveros directs a script by him and Maggie Briggs. Amanda Freedman produces the film. Executive producers on “The Luckiest Man In America” include Juan de Dios Larraín, Pablo Larraín, Andrew Hevia, Hauser, Ron Black, Sara McFarlane, Damiano Tucci, Tiziano Tucci, Sophia Banks, Divya Shahani, Arun Thapar, Roger Lolly, Juan Pablo Solano, and Simón Beltrán.
As noted earlier, “The Luckiest Man In America” had its world premiere at TIFF last year. IFC Films and Sapan Studios acquired its US distribution rights after the festival ended.
