'The Reckoning' Trailer: Neil Marshall Returns With A Period Horror Film Starring Charlotte Kirk

Before 2019, you could say that Neil Marshall is one of the most beloved genre filmmakers working. Why must I qualify that as pre-2019? Well, you see, the filmmaker ended up releasing the R-rated “Hellboy” reboot in 2019 and that film has gone down as one of the worst comic book adaptations in recent memory, and it has sullied the good name of Mr. Marshall. Now, he’d like to rectify that with the new feature, “The Reckoning.”

As seen in the trailer for “The Reckoning,” the film is a period horror film about a woman being unjustly accused of being a witch during the 17th century. And if you know anything about that time period, you know that accusations of heresy are frowned upon, as they usually result in women being burnt alive.

As mentioned, the film comes from director Neil Marshall, who is probably best known for films such as “The Descent” and the aforementioned “Hellboy” reboot. He’s also one of the directors of some of the better “Game of Thrones” episodes. He co-wrote “The Reckoning” alongside Charlotte Kirk and Edward Evers-Swindell. Interestingly, Kirk also stars in the film. She’s joined by Joe Anderson, Steven Waddington, and Sean Pertwee in the cast.

And if you want to read about Kirk, Marshall, and the drama in their personal lives that has affected the premiere and release of “The Reckoning,” you can definitely do so. Needless to say, it’s pretty salacious stuff. Regardless, with the film only a month away, we can now focus on what Marshall and Kirk have turned in on the big screen.

“The Reckoning” is set to arrive in select theaters and VOD on February 5. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

After losing her husband during the Great Plague, Grace Haverstock (Charlotte Kirk) is unjustly accused of being a witch and placed in the custody of England’s most ruthless witch-hunter, Judge Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee). Forced to endure physical and emotional torture while steadfastly maintaining her innocence, Grace must face her own inner demons as the Devil himself starts to work his way into her mind.
