'Thread': Kumail Nanjiani & Mandy Moore To Star In Jeremy Slater's 'Insidious' Spinoff Film

We already know that Blumhouse loves a franchise. The micro-budget horror film company is always keen to turn a successful one-off film into a long-running feature franchise. And one of the most successful has been “Insidious.” Now, it appears Blumhouse is ready to try its hand at an “Insidious” spinoff.

According to Deadline, Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore have signed on to star in the upcoming film, “Thread: An Insidious Tale.” While it doesn’t appear that it’ll have much overt connection to the main “Insidious” franchise from filmmaker James Wan and star Patrick Wilson, it appears the tie-in comes from the fact that there will be some sort of demonic presence in ‘Thread.’

“Thread: An Insidious Tale” tells the story of a married couple who attempt to use a spell to travel back in time to stop the death of their young child. As you might expect, considering this is a horror film from Blumhouse, things go awry and an evil entity is involved.

The film is set to be written and directed by Jeremy Slater, who is probably best known for his most recent work on the Marvel Studios series, “Moon Knight.” The film will mark the writer’s directorial debut. Previous projects he’s written for include the short-lived “Exorcist” TV series and the 2017 English-language adaptation of “Death Note.”

It’s too soon to know when we might see “Thread: An Insidious Tale” arrive in theaters. However, these Blumhouse films arrive pretty quickly after they begin filming, so we could see this one sooner than later.
