After months of anticipation and weeks of hearing from critics all over the world how great it is, Luca Guadagnino’s “Suspiria” remake is finally hitting theaters this weekend, albeit in limited release. That being said, this is the first time that the general public will get a chance to see the horror film. And for those of us that still have to wait a week, we have compiled three new clips from the film to hold us over.
Back in August, The Playlist reviewer Jessica Kiang was lucky enough to see the film during its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. In her review, she described “Suspiria” as “a long, deliriously filmic, primal banshee-howl of macabre imagination that leaves us hormonal and drunk on that lovely delusion: the beautiful, thrilling, lurid lie of cinema.” And thanks to the three new clips, you can see a hint at what she raved about.
The first two clips focus on Tilda Swinton’s character in the film. If you’re not familiar with the 1977 Dario Argento original film, “Suspiria” tells the story of a young dancer who joins a German dance troupe but quickly discovers that there’s something sinister at play. And it’s no surprise that Swinton, who is one of the best actors working today, plays creepy so very well in the first two clips, as she coaches young dancers and reprimands another.

The last clip is all about Dakota Johnson, who stars as the aforementioned new dancer to the troupe. Here, we see Johnson use all of her dance training to wow the teachers during her introductory dance. She’s so good, in fact, that she causes Swinton’s character to take notice…while in a different room. You see, there’s more than meets the eye to the people in charge of this school.
“Suspiria” is a two-and-a-half-hour horror film that doesn’t let up and it’s finally hitting theaters just in time for Halloween. However, if you are going to have to wait until next week to see the film, just listen to the new score and watch these clips over and over again.
