First Look At Tilda Swinton In Joanna Hogg's New Film 'The Souvenir'

The Souvenir” is a film we’ve had our eyes on for about a year now when it was announced. The film, from director Joanna Hogg, stars Robert Pattinson, Richard Ayoade, Tom Burke, and Tilda Swinton. While we don’t know when the film is going to see its debut, we now have our official first look at the upcoming drama.

In the first look photo (via Screen Daily), we see Tilda Swinton acting opposite her on-screen (and real-life) daughter, played by Honor Swinton Byrne. The film follows an ambitious film student (Swinton Byrne) who meets a mysterious, but charismatic, man (Burke). From there things get strange, as the film student struggles to figure out what’s really going on with the relationship and the mystery man.

As mentioned before, “The Souvenir” comes from director Hogg, who is best known for her film “Archipelago,” which earned the filmmaker critical acclaim and starred Tom Hiddleston. The upcoming film is executive produced by legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who has previously said that he discovered Hogg’s work by complete happenstance.

In an interview with Screen Daily, Scorsese explains how he became aware of Hogg’s work, saying, “ The film came my way by chance. I was in London shooting ‘Hugo’ and someone sent me a DVD of ‘Archipelago.’ I remember looking at the film on the weekend and being very surprised by it. It was a stunning experience for me. I found it moving and beautiful. I then met Joanna in London.”

Hogg then explains how the two became partners on “The Souvenir, “This story has been in my head for a few years. After Exhibition, I talked to Martin about what I should do next. I had two ideas: one was a ghost story. The other was this one.”

“The Souvenir” is planned as part one of a two-parter, with no release date as of now.
