Time Magazine's Top 10 Films Of 2018 Shows Love For 'Bohemian Rhapsody' & Mister Rogers

Year-end top 10 lists for films are a peculiar thing. Since these are judged subjectively by the writer (or publication), each top 10 can vary wildly from the last. There are people like John Waters, who puts a French musical with metal songs as his #1 or a French publication talking about “The Wild Boys” as the greatest film of the year. But then you have publications like Time, who are well respected but inevitably play it safe.

And that’s the best way to describe Time Magazine’s top 10 films for 2018 — safe. All the major Oscar players are present, minus “Green Book” (which is interesting considering the rest of the list is chock full of the typical picks), but overall, there’s not a whole lot you can argue with. Well, that being said, the fact that “Bohemian Rhapsody” is in anyone’s top 10 is suspect, but I digress.

Perhaps the only surprising thing about Time’s top 10 is the fact that the Fred Rogers documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” is placed so high, at #2. There’s no denying the film is a massive box office hit and critical darling, but you don’t see many people ranking it so high. And as what seems to be a running theme this awards season, Paul Schrader’sFirst Reformed,” which was released well before the other major Oscar players, is represented on the list at #3. With all this “First Reformed” love, it wouldn’t be any surprise if the film becomes the sleeper awards season darling.
