Timothée Chalamet Admits He "Wept For An Hour" After Realizing His Part In Nolan's 'Interstellar' Was So Small

Timothée Chalamet is one of the best actors working today. Since blowing minds with his performance in “Call Me By Your Name,” earning the young actor a coveted Oscar nomination, Chalamet has been one of the biggest names in Hollywood, landing major roles, such as the lead in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune” and most recently, in the film that could earn him a second Oscar nom, “Beautiful Boy.” And in a new interview, the actor explains how one of his first major roles turned out to be an emotional rollercoaster.

Before Chalamet was wowing audiences in ‘CMBYN,’ he had a minor role in Christopher Nolan’s epic space film “Interstellar.” In the film, the actor plays the younger version of Casey Affleck’s character Tom. And while filming, apparently Chalamet was under the assumption that his part would be bigger than what was in the film.

Speaking to Emma Stone as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Chalamet explains that when he went to the premiere of the film, alongside major actors like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and John Lithgow, he was just so excited and soaked in everything around him.

“And I really had no career at this point, so I was the fraud a little bit, in the room,” he explains. “And I saw it and I loved it.”

But then it was when he got home and the excitement wore off that the real emotion began to flow. And it wasn’t because starring in the film was the culmination of a dream, or anything like that. You see, Chalamet was bummed that his part wasn’t bigger.

“But then I went home with my dad and I wept for an hour because I just figured my part was bigger,” he confessed.

However, he now understands that his sadness was a bit uncalled for, as he reveals that Nolan didn’t actually cut any of the work. It just “felt” bigger when he was shooting it.

Obviously, Chalamet doesn’t have to worry about that any longer, as he’s front and center in almost everything he’s attached to.
