First Trailer For Sony’s Animated ‘Spider-Man’ Leaps Into Action

When Sony and Marvel Studios announced they were working on a reboot of “Spider-Man,” many fans were hoping that they would actually start with Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker. Debuting in the comics in 2011, Miles Morales became Spider-Man to replace a dead Peter Parker in Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe. He was hugely popular, developing a rabid fanbase. Unfortunately for these fans, Marvel and Sony decided to go with Peter Parker for their live-action films. However, Sony announced that they would develop an animated “Spider-Man” feature film that would star none other than Miles Morales himself.

In the first teaser for the film, audiences get to see what a “Spider-Man” film looks like without Peter Parker. While they’re both young characters, Miles Morales is a very different Spider-Man. There’s no Uncle Ben or Aunt May. There’s no Mary-Jane. This is a new character, with a different suit, but with the same Spider-Man problems. He’s a kid fighting in a world of adults, and he still has to hurry home to finish his homework. He also doesn’t look like Peter Parker. Miles Morales is an Afro-Hispanic character, who was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli after they were inspired by Barack Obama and Donald Glover.

Sony has no plans on making this anything less than a major motion picture. With the all-star cast including Liev Schreiber, Mahershala Ali, and Shameik Moore as Miles, Sony wants everyone to know that they are hiring the very best for this animated film. The other big names associated with the film are none other than Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as screenwriters. This duo is responsible for many great films recently, and in the news recently, for unceremoniously being booted from the “Star Wars” universe.

The animated “Spider-Man” film is set to be released December 14, 2018.
