Emily Blunt Stars In The First Trailer For ‘Mary Poppins Returns’

Disney has been bringing back everyone’s old favorites lately, with great success, and it seems like the studio’s only mode of business is “Star Wars,” Marvel, and reboots/remakes. The latest in this trend of making what’s old new again is “Mary Poppins Returns.” The highly anticipated sequel/reboot of the classic film is scheduled to be released next year, and the first trailer has arrived.

Instead of going back and doing a proper reboot, “Mary Poppins Returns” picks up years after the original, where the kids are all grown up. These adorable little kids are now adults with kids of their own and plenty of drama. But never fear! As the title suggests, just as times get tough, Mary Poppins comes back to make everyone happy again!

Emily Blunt stars in the film as the titular character, however, what is giving even the harshest critics hope is the inclusion of Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack. Of course, everyone is excited to see the “Hamilton” creator acting in such a large film, but he’s also along to help write new songs too. We all know that the cast and crew working on the film is top-notch, but if the songs fall flat, the film could ultimately be disappointing. So, adding Miranda gives some gravitas to what could be looked at as purely a cash grab for Disney.

Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and Meryl Streep are also appearing in the film. Rob Marshall, who has his fair share of experience with musicals, is on board to co-write and direct the film. He’s coming off the moderate success of “Into the Woods,” but is perhaps best known for the huge hit “Chicago” adaptation.

“Mary Poppins Returns” opens on December 25, 2018, and goes up against Fox’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (if it actually comes out and whatever the hell is “Untitled WB Event Film #2.
