Anyone remember the 2009 political-satire "In The Loop"? The film was a festival hit and featured a side-splitting performance from Peter Capaldi as political hot-shot Malcolm Tucker. That film was, in fact, a spin off original BBC show "The Thick Of It" — both of which are the brainchild of Armando Ianucci. Attempts had been to remake the show for HBO and while there was a pilot shot, it was one Ianucci wasn't a fan of and was never picked up.
But the good news is that Ianucci has now developed a whole new show for the cable-channel titled "Veep," starring Julia Louis-Dreyfuss as the Vice President of the U.S. The first trailer has now been unveiled and exhibits a behind-the-scenes, political satire very much in the vein of its predecessors, and it promises to deliver some seroius laughs.
As was the case with the "The Thick Of It," we're presuming "Veep" also doesn't really have an overarching plot preferring instead to follow the politicians day-to-day lives and the hurdles they face. A look at the trailer should give you a better understanding about where the show's focus will be. Co-starring with Louis-Dreyfuss will be Anna Chlumsky ("In The Loop"), Tony Hale (Buster!) and Matt Walsh with the majority of Ianucci's "The Thick Of It" and "In The Loop writing team back on board including Simon Blackwell, Tony Roche, Sean Gray, Jesse Armstrong, Will Smith, Roger Drew and Ian Martin.
"Veep" is set to premiere on April 22nd; here's to hoping there's a character even half of good as Malcolm Tucker.
