So is this the summer's nuts 'n gum, "Jonah Hex"-style mess or a stylish take on the vampire genre? Or both? Frankly, it looks like it's a bit of everything in the red band trailer for "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," a movie that we keep forgetting is coming out next month just a couple of weeks after "Prometheus." And it seems 20th Century Fox has had their attention mostly on Ridley Scott's baby as well, but with that film screening for press next week before it opens internationally, it looks like they can now put their attention on the Timur Bekmambetov-directed, Tim Burton-produced movie.
And in doing so, they've unveiled a bloody red band trailer, with lots of swinging axes and imagery to remind audiences this is totally in 3D, bro. The film stars Benjamin Walker as the former president who goes to the shed, grabs the tree-chopping tool and faces off against the undead with some training provided by Dominic Cooper. Rufus Sewell shows up as the requisite bad guy saying something about wanting to build a nation for vampires, and if you've watched every episode of "True Blood," this won't be offering anything too new to the genre except perhaps some old timey clothes and a much better budget than the HBO show, which can look hilariously awful at times.
Can't say this left us too pumped. Maybe after "Cowboys & Aliens," "John Carter" and this film inevitably underperforms, Hollywood will stop putting square pegs into round holes. ALVH opens on June 22nd. [IGN]
