'Watchmen' Trailer: Damon Lindelof Brings DC Comics Graphic Novel To HBO [Comic-Con]

One of the most iconic graphic novels of all time, “Watchmen” is getting a TV adaptation courtesy of HBOThe writer and executive producer of the show will be Damon Lindelof, who has worked previously on “The Leftovers” and “Westworld,” will take charge of the DC Comics limited series that was written over 30 years ago.

The creator of ‘Watchmen,’ Alan Moore has been adamant in the past about how his novel should be left to comics and not be brought to the screen. Lindelof though is aware of this, and back in May of last year, took to Instagram to say he has been in contact with Moore. “I have an immense amount of respect for Alan Moore. He is an extraordinary talent of mythic proportions. I wrote him a letter, not dissimilar to this one, because I owed him an explanation as to why I am defying his wishes and to ask him not to place a curse on me because he knows magic and apparently, he can do that.”

It was not disclosed what Moore said in response to Lindelof’s letter, however, it should be made clear that the show is being “remixed” and not “adapted.”

The show is in safe hands though, Mr. Moore, Lindelof is well-versed in creating great shows. ‘The Leftovers’ final season was one of the best of 2017, even being “praised as one of TV’s best, ever.”

The show will feature characters from the novels, including Ozymandias who will be played by Jeremy Irons (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), while Doctor Manhattan is also confirmed to appear in the show. There are also roles for actors Regina King, who was a part of Lindelof’s “The Leftovers,” Don Johnson (“Django Unchained”) and Andrew Howard (“Limitless”).

From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, this drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own. The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

‘Watchmen’ will release at some point in October on HBO. Watch the trailer below which debuted at Comic-Con today.
