Will Ferrell Boots Up Competitive Gaming Comedy

There are certain members of the Playlist team (okay, maybe it’s just me and Rodrigo) who will pretty much watch anything with Will Ferrell. And the actor tends to be at his most comedically inspired when he’s playing characters who are outside their comfort zone, which makes this new project sound particularly promising.

Ferrell has signed up to star in a competitive gaming comedy being produced by Legendary Entertainment, where he’ll play a member of a professional eSports team, and an anomaly in a sport where players usually retire in their 20s due to slowing hand-eye coordination. Apparently, the movie will be in the spirit of “Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby,” will be penned by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn (who are also working on “SpongeBob SquarePants 3“) and feature Geniuses and Fnatic, two of the premiere eSports teams in the world.

No word yet on who will direct, but honestly, you had us sold at “Will Ferrell is an old dude playing video games.”
