Yann Demange To Direct Jordan Peele And J.J. Abrams' HBO Series 'Lovecraft Country'

It’s been just over a year since the release of “Get Out,” and film fans are dying to know what’s next for writer/director Jordan Peele. While he’s mentioned he wants to stick to the same type of film as “Get Out” for his next feature, we do know that there’s one project that’s much closer on the horizon. Peele is producing an HBO series titled “Lovecraft Country,” and now we know who he has brought on to helm it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, French director Yann Demange, best known for his film “’71” and the upcoming Matthew McConaughey movie “White Boy Rick,” has signed on to direct the first episode of the HBO series. “Lovecraft Country” is based on a 2016 novel about a man named Atticus Black, who joins his friend Letitia and his Uncle George as they travel across the country in the 1950s Jim Crow era to find Atticus’ missing father.

The twist comes when the group encounters monsters in the form of racist Americans and actual monsters from a H.P. Lovecraft story. “Lovecraft Country” sounds like a great horror series in the same vein as “Get Out,” and with Jordan Peele producing and Demange behind the camera, it should be amazing.

Demange has been a filmmaker that has seen his stock rise recently. He was mentioned in the shortlist for the upcoming James Bond film, before Danny Boyle became the frontrunner. His next film, “White Boy Rick,” stars McConaughey, as well as Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bruce Dern, and is scheduled to be released August 17.

With Demange directing, and Misha Green signed to write the series, “Lovecraft Country” should be gearing up to start production soon. No cast has been named, yet. J.J. Abrams and Ben Stephenson are also on board as executive producer.

HBO is looking for their next big series, and it looks like “Lovecraft Country” just might be it.
