'Hannibal' Season 4 Hopes Still Alive According To Bryan Fuller

Ever since NBC cancelled “Hannibal” after three seasons, fans have been clamoring for more, and Bryan Fuller has been trying to make it happen. The stylishly grisly show was always a bit of a strange fit for the mainstream network, but nonetheless, Fuller and co. managed to really push the envelope of what could be shown on primetime, broadcast television. At any rate, efforts to save the series didn’t initially go well. Netflix and Amazon passed, and a potential feature film didn’t go anywhere either. However, there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel, with his interesting tidbit emerging on Twitter from the show’s creator and producer Bryan Fuller.

That’s certainly new, and there’s more. On the Post Mortem podcast this spring, Fuller revealed that the hurdles to continuing “Hannibal” elsewhere seem to be clearing up.

“I have conversations with [producer] Martha DeLaurentiis. I have conversations with Mads [Mikkelsen] and Hugh [Dancy]; we’re all excited about the prospect of returning to the story. There’re some hurdles to get through. The rights revert back to Martha in September, I believe, and then it’s a matter of: do we do it with [French production company] Gaumont? Which would be the only way to do it if we wanted to use those characters,” Fuller said.

Indeed, there are still complications in the way of getting a fourth season to happen. In fact, Fuller’s idea of tackling the storyline in “The Silence Of The Lambs is off the table due to rights reasons. However, he does have an idea for a new storyline, that would involve Katharine Isabelle’s Margot Verger.

“I wanted her to humanize all the Verger meatpacking plants and turn them over to PETA-approved [authority]. That would definitely be marbled through the season, Margot Verger taking down the meat industry as a hot, powerful lesbian,” he said on the podcast.

No matter what, this is huge news for fans who have been hoping for another deliciously bloody meal with “Hannibal.” [via ScreenCrush]
