This month sees the next big DCU installment, not only giving audiences a full feature adventure of Milly Alcock‘s Kara in “Supergirl,” after a minor drunken cameo in the first “Superman” installment. That same movie, coming out in a couple of weeks, has former “Aquaman” actor Jason Momoa (the first major cast member from the Snyderverse carrying over to the DCU) inhabiting his dream comic book role, Lobo, a tough-as-nails alien biker bounty hunter that can go toe-to-toe with the most dangerous beings in the universe, including Kryptonians.
Speaking with Fandango to promote “Supergirl,” Momoa teased that Lobo had crossed paths with Superman before. Granted, the outlet wasn’t entirely sure he was joking, sharing a personal theory, or expressing some elements of the alien character’s established cinematic backstory (Gunn and other creatives may have done that, as character deep-dives or plans wouldn’t be all that surprising). That said, Momoa expressed an interest in playing the character again in more crossovers in the future and meeting up with David Corenswet‘s DC hero.

“He got in my way a couple of times,” said Momoa of Lobo and Supes tangling in the past. “I gave him sāsā, but we respect each other…some of the times…We’ll see what the future holds.”
Does that mean he’ll show up alongside Alcock in “Man of Tomorrow”? We’re unsure, and that hasn’t been made official. However, given the cosmic aspect there and Brainiac being a villain that needs all hands on deck, Lobo would be needed to help out or could align with the baddie; it’s hard to completely dismiss the idea of Lobo appearing or having a cameo in the “Superman” sequel, given his comic book ties with the Son of Krypton.
Many years before Gunn launched DC Studios, Warner Bros. had spent a lot of time and cash developing a solo movie with directors like Guy Ritchie and Michael Bay attached over the years; the latter version was once described as an R-rated “Guardians of the Galaxy” as helmed by Quentin Tarantino. More recently, “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch, who is lined up to work with Momoa for a high-seas thriller called “The Pirate,” has expressed a public interest in tackling the “Lobo” movie.
You can watch that full exchange with Jason Momoa and Alcock during their chat with Fandango. “Supergirl” is heading to screens on June 26, and we’ll see what the future holds for Lobo.
