Mark Wahlberg Doesn't Think Michael Bay Is Going To Quit 'Transformers'

In the past week both Mark Wahlberg and Michael Bay announced that after this weekend’s “Transformers: The Last Knight,” they were both done with the franchise. However, when it comes to the director, we’ve heard this before. After the past couple of “Transformers” movies, Bay had said he was done smashing robots together, only to come back and do it again. And if you don’t think he’ll quit the toy franchise, you’re not alone.

Speaking with ComicBook, Wahlberg himself shared his belief that Bay will be back, and that the director’s will once again be enthusiastic to make another blockbuster outing.

“…it’s one of those things where Michael has built this entire universe right, and he will decide what he wants to do and how he wants to do it. Right now he says he doesn’t want to do another film and he says that after every film because they are so difficult to make and he pretty much has to do it single-handedly, even with all the help that he has because all of the movie is in his mind,” the actor said. “So he’ll decide that and I would be hard pressed to see him walk away and put it in somebody else’s control and care.”

That’s a fair point, but whether or not Bay will have a franchise to come back to remains to be seen. ‘The Last Knight’ is looking like it’s going to have a dreadful domestic opening weekend, one that might be lowest opening of the entire series. That’s not so great, especially considering Paramount has been busy building and writers room and looking to establish an entire universe of movies, that will include spinoffs like next summer’s still planned “Bumblebee.” May it’s time to pass the torch after all.
