Sacha Baron Cohen isn’t a guy who attaches himself to multiple projects and then sees what sticks. Following this spring’s release of “The Brothers Grimsby” and “Alice Through The Looking Glass,” the actor was linked to “Mandrake The Magician,” and that’s about it. However, he’s now attached to star in a movie he’s so passionate about, he’s going to hit the American Film Market this week to talk with buyers about it himself.

Cohen has been tapped to star in remake of the Danish cult comedy “Klown,” with Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna powering the redo. The actor is apparently a big fan of the original, which stars famed comedians Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen as buddies who go on a wild and inappropriate weekend trip with Frank’s girlfriend’s nephew, as he tries to prove he’s fatherhood material. Drafthouse Films brought both “Klown” and the sequel, “Klown Forever” (which features Cohen’s wife Isla Fisher) to cinemas stateside where they found a devoted audience, but a Cohen-led version will certainly be on a bigger playing field.
It’s all early stages at the moment as no writer and director has boarded just yet, but if “Klown” has a good reception at AFM, I could see this quickly becoming Cohen’s next movie. [Screen Daily]
