12 Big Emmy Questions For 2026: ‘Euphoria,’ ‘Beef,’ Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel

Will “Late Show with Stephen Colbert” or “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” get the historical boost?
After a shocking cancellation announcement last summer, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” took the Outstanding Talk Series Emmy and the 2026 PGA Award for Live Entertainment, Variety, Sketch, Standup & Talk Television in February. But “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” experienced an infuriating and historic suspension that occurred just days after last year’s Emmys, the ABC staple pulled out a Peabody Award win for how it returned to the air. Which show gets the industry, political bump? Does it all depend on how Colbert ends the “Late Show” next month?

Is everyone sleeping on a Connor Storrie Emmy win?
“Heated Rivalry” won a prestigious Peabody Award today, but isn’t Emmy-eligible due to a silly Television Academy rule. But Storrie delivered one of the funniest and best guest host performances on “Saturday Night Live” this year (so did Sabrina Carpenter for those tracking). If he does any semblance of campaigning, he could easily get nominated in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category. And, considering how weak that category is this year (it may have multiple “SNL” guest hosts as nominees), his chances of winning are better than you’d think.

Is Netflix going to have to pedal to the medal for “Beef” season 2?
It took an entire weekend, but the second season of “Beef” finally hit No. 1 in the U.S. That’s a good sign for word of mouth, even though only 2.4 million viewers tuned in over its first four days. It essentially did less than half the viewership of the docuseries “Trust Me: The False Prophet.” The good news is that the reviews are quite good. That being said, if Netflix thought it could score a ton of nominations without its talent having to campaign as much as the “Adolescence” crew a year ago, they may have to restrategize. The Limited Series field is simply too competitive, including contenders such as “The Beast in Me” and “Death by Lightning” from their own stable.

Then again, can Netflix land four Limited or Anthology Series nominees?
In fact, can the streamer land noms for not only “Beef,” “The Beast in Me,” “Death By Lightning,” and “Lord of the Flies”? Could “Black Rabbit” surprise? Television Academy members adore Netflix, especially actors. It’s unlikely they land more than three, but watch out.

Which canceled series will make waves?
Television Academy voters love to make a point. Last year, Netflix canceled “The Residence,” but star Uzo Aduba still got a nom. “Mid Century Modern” didn’t make it past one season on Hulu but still earned four noms, including one for director James Burrows. This season, Apple TV’s recently canceled period comedy “Palm Royale,” which earned 11 nominations for its first season, could crack several categories, such as Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Kristen Wiig) and Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Carol Burnett), among others. We’ve already touched on “The Late Show’s” last go around, and there are always those series that get canceled right after Emmy qualifying ends on May 31. So, watch out.
