18 October Films To See: ‘Frankenstein,’ ‘Bugonia,’ ‘Springsteen,’ ‘Anemone’ & More

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere
Jeremy Allen White makes the leap to leading man in the Bruce Springsteen music biopic, “Deliver Me From Nowhere.” The film, directed by Scott Cooper, follows the singer as he grapples with newfound fame and his past demons while writing his upcoming album, “Nebraska.” Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffmann, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz also star. 
Release Date: In theaters October 24 via 20th Century Studios. 

Bugonia
Emma Stone teams up with filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos for their fourth feature together in “Bugonia.” A remake of the early-aughts Korean film “Save the Green Planet,” Jesse Plemons plays a young man who kidnaps a powerful CEO (Stone), believing her to be an alien intent on destroying the Earth. Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone star. 
Release Date: In theaters October 24 via Focus Features

Nouvelle Vague
Filmmaker Richard Linklater has not one, but two films coming out in October, both of which explore classic cinema and theater as he directs his stories. In “Nouvelle Vague,” he sets off for the end of the 1950s, where a new era of French cinema was about to take off. Guillaume Marbeck and Zoey Deutch star as Jean-Luc Godard and Jean Selberg as the film follows the pair during the shooting of the 1960 film, “Breathless.” 
Release Date: In theaters October 31, before streaming on November 14 on Netflix. 

Honorable Mentions: October kicks off with some experimental horror, including the dog-lovers kryptonite with “Good Boy,” and the vacation gone wrong mystery, “Bone Lake.” Also opening on October 3 is a trifecta of documentaries, including “Orwell, 2+2+5,” the Marc Maron-focused “Are We Good?” and “The Librarians.” The Crispin Glover mystery thriller “Mr. K” premieres October 8, followed by the Sundance family drama “Fairyland,” which finally arrives in theaters October 10. Meanwhile, the 2025 Sundance musical starring Jennifer Lopez, “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” is slated for a quicker turnaround, also premiering on October 10 alongside the Harris Dickinson-directed “Urchin.” 

Anime fans will also have a treat in the release of “100 Meters” on October 10, directed by Kenji Iwaisawa and written by Uoto. Filmmaker Elizabeth Lo shifts the focus to a rising industry in China, exploring how it helps maintain marriages in the face of infidelity with “Mistress Dispeller,” out on October 22. Also arriving on October 22 is the latest Colleen Hoover adaptation with “Regretting You,” along with Chris Stuckmann’s horror “Shelby Oaks.” Zombies face off against drag queens and club kids in “Queens of the Dead” on October 24, while two parents must deal with their teenager’s car accident in “Hallow Road” on October 31. Closing out the month, there’s also the familial drama “Anniversary” and the animated film “Little Amélie or the Character of Rain.”
