“Black Phone 2”
Befitting the season, the supernatural horror film “The Black Phone” gets a sequel with “Black Phone 2.” Directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, the film takes place a few years after the original, with Finn struggling to adapt back to life after captivity. The twist comes when his younger sister starts having dreams of mysterious calls from the black phone. Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies all return to reprise their roles.

“Frankenstein”
Horror auteur and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro returns to put his own stylistic spin on a classic with “Frankenstein.” The film, based on the Mary Shelley classic, stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature. Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Lauren Collins, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz also star.
Release Date: In theaters October 17, before streaming on Netflix November 7.
“Blue Moon”
Richard Linklater has got theater on the mind with his latest comedy-drama, “Blue Moon.” The biopic, written by Robert Kaplow, follows the songwriter Lorenz Hart on the opening night of his colleague’s musical, “Oklahoma!” Ethan Hawke stars as Hart, with Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, and Andrew Scott rounding out the cast.

“The Mastermind”
Josh O’Connor teams up with filmmaker Kelly Reichardt for her latest, the heist film “The Mastermind.” O’Connor stars as a family man living a double life as an art thief. The film takes place in the 1970s and stars an eclectic lineup of actors, including Alana Haim, Hope Davis, John Magaro, Gabby Hoffman, and Bill Camp.

“Hedda”
Director Nia DaCosta teams up with star Tessa Thompson in the drama, “Hedda.” An emotional reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s 1891 stage drama, adapted by DaCosta, the film follows the titular Hedda as she’s torn between her past love and her current life. Imogen Poots and Nina Hoss also star.
Release Date: In theaters October 22, before streaming on October 29 via Amazon Prime Studios.
