"The Great Wall" will be built, but it won't be with Ed Zwick who has exited the picture, leaving the director's chair vacant.
In the works for a while now, the first production by Legendary East has been operating under something of a veil of secrecy. What we do know thus far: Superman and Abraham Lincoln (Henry Cavill and Benjamin Walker) are in the leads of pic, with Zhang Ziyi joining them, in a script penned by Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz which is based off a story, dreamed up by Legendary honcho Thomas Tull and "World War Z" author Max Brooks, that centers on two 15th century British warriors who stumble across the wall mid-construction, but soon realize that it's not just being built to keep out the Mongols, but something else entirely. Production was slated to begin this year, but was pushed to next spring due to weather and incomplete financing.
All this to say, there's no word yet on why Zwick bailed, the but the movie is expected to shoot as planned. So…replacements? Is anyone even excited for this thing? [Deadline]
