We're less than a week away from the Cannes Film Festival and over the next few days a plethora of clips and trailers will be arriving for the slew of highly anticipated titles making their way to the south of France. And a first glimpse at one of the most anticipated has made its way online.
The biggest question so far about "Killing Them Softly" was what kind of tone it was going to strike. Would it contain the same existential aura of Andrew Dominik's "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford"? Or would it be a more mainstream thriller? Well, how about somewhere between the two? The first clip is a pretty great little scene, with Sam Shepard and Slaine (who you'll recognize from "The Town") showing up on the trailer doorstep of Ray Liotta and roughing him up. But in a great bit of camerawork, instead of showing us what's going on indoors, Dominik's camera stays outside and slowly pans to the backdoor where Liotta is thrown out over the railing. Fantastic. Gritty and kinda funny too.
This one is on our list of 15 Most Anticipated Films, and it looks like with good reason. "Killing Them Softly" lands in theaters on September 21st. Watch below. [Cannes Film Festival]
