Awesome: The PS22 Chorus To Sing At The Oscars

Well isn’t this all kinds of heartwarming and sugary sweet? The PS22 Chorus, the fifth grade choir from a Staten Island public school who’ve made themselves known the world over thanks to their stirring and moving renditions of popular songs, have been invited to walk the red carpet and sing at upcoming the Oscar ceremony.

The kids received the news in person from Anne Hathaway and producer Bruce Cohen who dropped by their 2010 Winter Concert where a near riot ensued. OK, maybe not, but the kids are clearly thrilled and even Anne Hathaway looks a little stunned at just how much the invitation has rocked their world. There’s no word yet on what they’ll be performing but our guess is that it will be a medley of sorts of all the eventual Best Song nominees. Frankly, this is one of the best ideas the Academy has had in a while.

The Academy Awards will take place on February 27, 2011. Check out the full announcement after the jump and one of our favorite performances by the pint sized group. [PS22 Chorus]
