Crap, that was fast. It was only this spring that casting was coming together for the film, but “Everything Must Go,” a low budget indie dramedy starring Will Ferrell, Rebecca Hall, Laura Dern and Michael Pena is apparently in the can and ready for audiences at TIFF. Based on a short story by Raymond Carver, the film follows “a recovering alcoholic (Ferrell) who falls off the wagon, is tossed from both his job and home, and must survive on his front lawn by selling his belongings in a yard sale.” The film was written and directed by Dan Rush, making his feature debut. The first still from ‘Everything’ has arrived via IM Global, the film’s production company, and while its not Earth shattering it does point towards (unsurprisingly) a more sober outing from Ferrell.
Also headed to Toronto is Brad Anderson’s thriller “The Vanishing On 7th Street.” The film, starring Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo, follows the survivors of a world-wide blackout that causes countless populations to vanish.
Other genre pics making their bow at the festival includes the live action/animated “Bunraku” by Guy Moshe starring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson and follows “a young man who has spent his life searching for revenge only to find himself up against a bigger challenge than he originally bargained for.” Also unspooling is “Saw” creator James Wan’s “Insidious” starring Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne. It follows “a young family that makes the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities. Meanwhile, his consciousness is trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further.” Uh, ok.
The latter two films are expected to be slotted in the festival’s Midnight Madness schedule, while the others will find their way to some of the festival’s other programs.
