In case it wasn’t clear already with live action projects in the works based around “The Jungle Book,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mulan,” “Tinker Bell,” “Dumbo,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Night on Bald Mountain,” “Prince Charming,” and “Aladdin,” Disney is raiding their vaults hard to find new ways to exploit old classics. At least they haven’t touched my beloved “Robin Hood” yet. However, they have taken another childhood treasure out to give it a new coat of paint.
THR reports that “Game Of Thrones” scribe Brian Cogman will pen “Sword In The Stone” for the studio. Presumably, he’ll bring his skill of telling tales about swords and castles with less bloodbath-y elements. There’s no word on what kind of story approach he’ll be taking with the King Arthur and Merlin saga, but I’d wager the pitch at the board meeting at Disney went something like this: “It’s like ‘Game Of Thrones’….but for kids!”
This is only in development at the moment, and who knows, maybe it won’t get anywhere. But Disney is surely gonna give this one a hard pull.
