‘Bad Bridgets’: Colin Farrell, Steve Coogan, Himesh Patel, Domhnall Gleeson & More Join 19th-Century NYC-Set Netflix Series From ‘Kneecap’ Director

Emilia Jones (“CODA,” “The Running Man”) and Alison Oliver (“The Order,” “Wuthering Heights”) will star in a new show featuring a pair of Irish girls, who are whisked away to New York City in the Netflix streaming series “Bad Bridgets” that has Rich Peppiatt set as the project’s director (Oliver replacing Daisy Edgar-Jones, who had been previously cast in a lead role).

The on-the-rise duo, who had recently co-starred together in the HBO crime thriller series “Task,” now have some exciting company as the streaming service haas officially announced the supporting cast features Colin Farrell (“Sugar,” “The Penguin”), Steve Coogan (“The White Lotus” Season 4), Himesh Patel (“The Odyssey,” “Station Eleven”), Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things,” “New Mutants”), Domhnall Gleeson (“Ex Machina,” “The Paper”), Niamh Algar (“Raised By Wolves,” “Wrath of Man”), and Simone Kirby (“Kneecap”).

An official logline for the series via Netflix:

Tells the story of two sisters who embark on a treacherous journey to the United States seeking escape from an abusive father, poverty, and hunger. On arrival in New York, they fall in with a group of other Irish women, the so-called “Bridgets,” who are creating mayhem in the city.

It is inspired by history professors Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick‘s research project; they would later go on to write the non-fiction book, “Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women,” alongside the podcast, which explores the stories of Irish immigrants finding their place in other countries, not just NYC/America.

Peppiatt had been previously behind the cheeky hip-hop indie comedy “Kneecap,” which featured the Gaeilge-speaking Irish rap group of the same name (who had become a political target of the British government for supporting a Free Palestine in interviews and live shows) with Michael Fassbender in a minor role. “Bad Bridgets” is certainly a new series to keep our eyes on as it looks to be a very special project that is coming together.
