Tom Hardy Set To Return For ‘MobLand’ Season 3 After Dust-Up & Near Exit

Fans of “MobLand” can now rest easy as it looks like the fate of Tom Hardy‘s return to the Paramount+ series has been settled, as trades are reporting the British actor is coming back for the third season, alongside fellow co-stars Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren (who went out of her way to back Hardy after reports that the two were at odds on set with drama).

While the third season hasn’t given the official green light, it’s been reported by Deadline that production could begin as soon as this fall, and we have to assume that keeping Hardy onboard is likely going to help land that go-ahead from Paramount+/finaicial backers. The reported issues were that Hardy was raising tensions (with both cast and crew) by being late to shoot scenes, alongside friction with the showrunner/writer/executive producer Jez Butterworth while filming the upcoming batch of episodes.

Ronan Bennett, who has been behind the assassin thriller series remake “The Day of the Jackal” and co-wrote Michael Mann‘s “Public Enemies,” created the show with producer/director Guy Ritchie (who had previously worked with Hardy on “RockNRolla” before recruiting him for “MobLand”). The director returned for Season 2 despite being busy with “The Gentlemen” and his new Prime series “Young Sherlock,” with the expectation of returning to helm some of the Season 3 episodes as well (granted, if his schedule allows and if Paramount+ approves their budgets).

The outlet adds that a patch-up meeting in London involved Hardy, Butterworth, and series executive producer David Glasser (not really one to suffer fools on his projects, and always ready to replace showrunners/creatives) with some help from Ritchie. Which gives us the impression that things can move forward with that tension from Season 2 carrying over, fingers crossed, now that more issues arise between now and the end of production.

That all said, we’re still waiting on a premiere date for Season 2 of “MobLand,” as that is expected to be sometime after the summer, and the British gangster series certainly has a loyal following, something that we learned during the Hardy dust-up (we have to assume that date will come out after these hiccups have been ironed out and they can get production dates sorted).
