Got a Tip?

Sam Raimi Says Marvel’s Spider-Man Reboot Will Be “Refreshing”

Spider-man 3It has to be a bit strange for Sam Raimi to see Spider-Man rebooted twice since his 2007 effort, "Spider-Man 3." There was Sony‘s Andrew Garfield who led the "The Amazing Spider-Man" series that semi-crashed and burned after two films, with the studio scrapping plans for future films and spinoffs. And now, Marvel is working with Sony to bring the webslinger into their universe, with Tom Holland now wearing the tights and set to appear in "Captain America: Civil War," with a standalone film to follow in 2017.

Raimi is very positive about all these developments, and thinks Marvel is on the right track with their concept of going young for the next incarnation. “I saw [both Marc Webb movies], they’re great. And I’m really glad that Marvel’s taking it to high school," he told MTV. "I think that’s gonna be refreshing, and just like my favorite of the Spider-Man comic-books. And I have a lot of faith that they really know their stuff… The difficulty of going through high school is so unique to a superhero. It’s unique and that’s what Spider-Man’s all about, so that they’re gonna explore that head on is very exciting.”

With Kevin Feige teasing a wittier Peter Parker coupled with a John Hughes influence, it will certainly be a somewhat different approach, though I’d surmise that Marvel and Sony won’t get too off the familiar path of what audiences have come to expect from the character. It’s a difficult balancing act, playing to expectations while trying to find a new spin on the superhero. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how it all develops.
