Got a Tip?

Amy Schumer Says She’s Penned Another “High-Concept” Comedy For Judd Apatow; Plus The First Clip From ‘Trainwreck’

TrainwreckAside from “Get Hard,” which received a kick in the teeth from audiences (see our review), SXSW 2015 was the year of the summer comedy. Melissa McCarthy’s “Spy” was a smash, but the one that really bowled audiences over was Judd Apatow’s “Trainwreck,” a movie written by and starring comedian Amy Schumer. Apatow was so taken with her when he heard her interview on Howard Stern in 2012 he immediately set a meeting, the two hit it off, and he asked her to write a screenplay that he would produce. It didn’t quite work out.

"It was more of a high-concept comedy," Apatow told the L.A. Times recently. "But I could tell there was a more personal story in her. The most interesting thing is the most honest truth. You see Louis C.K. and you think, ‘Wow, when he revealed himself, the world embraced him.’ Nirvana reveals raw truth and millions of people go, ‘I get it. I feel the same way.’ I’m always encouraging people to strip it down."

For her part, Schumer said, "The first time around, I wanted to write a movie that he would want to make,” alluding to Apatow’s raunchy R-rated comedies. Will she ever make that script? It remains to be seen, but Apatow encouraged her to write something more personal, and that became “Trainwreck,” which went over like gangbusters at SXSW (read our review).
