Got a Tip?

Luc Besson Says “Please, Please” Go See ‘Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets’ So He Can Make The Sequel

You can’t say that Luc Besson isn’t putting all his cards on the table for next summer’s “Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets.” The director’s dream project/comic book adaptation is already promising to be big and bold, bringing together an eclectic cast —Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu— for a grand sci-fi spectacle. While Besson is no stranger to franchises, having helmed the likes of “The Transporter” and “Taxi,” he’s deeply passionate about making a sequel to ‘Valerian.’

Talking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Besson made it clear he’s already got a followup mapped out, but he really needs ‘Valerian’ to be a hit, before he can think about doing another one.

“Please, please [make ‘Valerian’ successful] because I want to do the second one,” Besson enthused. “I have [the story]. I just have to be patient and humble, because you can’t start before you know if the first one works or not. So I’m eating my nails and waiting. But I have the second one, the second one is great. Go to the first one, so I can do the second one, please!”

With the first trailer slated to drop on November 10th, we’ll soon get an indication if Besson’s film has the goods to spawn multiple movies. “Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets” opens on July 21, 2017. Listen to the full conversation with Besson below.
