Got a Tip?

Surfs Up, ‘Blue Crush’ Is Going To Be A TV Show Now

Are we headed into a weird revival of beach driven movies and TV shows? Next summer “Baywatch” hits the big screen, and now on the small screen, another somewhat dated property for years past is getting dusted off: “Blue Crush.”

For those of a certain age, the 2002 movie starring Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, and Matthew Davis, and directed by John Stockwell (who was just coming off “Crazy/Beautiful,” and after these films, has never helmed anything that resonated as much as either of them), the movie told the tale of Anne, who trains to get back on the surfboard compete after nearly drowning. And of course, there’s romance along the way too. It’s not terribly deep, and actually, it does make sense to expand it out into fodder for a weekly series.

Lizzy Weiss, who co-wrote “Blue Crush,” is back to pen the series, and Deadline reminds us there was also a direct-to-video “Blue Crush 2,” which speaks to how popular the movie was at one time. And in case you’re wondering already where you can watch it, NBC is the network developing the project.
