Got a Tip?

T.J. Miller Won’t Be Replaced On ‘Deadpool 2’ Following Sexual Assault Allegations

What Ridley Scott did in replacing Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer for the role of John Paul Getty in “All the Money in the World was an unprecedented and, yes, historic feat in Hollywood filmmaking. The film was weeks away from release when Scott reshot Spacey’s scenes, the risk-taking endeavor was such a success that Plummer’s work was even nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe. The 80-year-old Scott set the bar for other possible Hollywood productions to do the same, but don’t expect “Deadpool 2 director David Leitch, caught up in a similar situation, to follow in Scott’s footsteps.

“Deadpool” co-star T.J. Miller was recently accused of sexual assault, however, Miller’s performance will not be replaced or erasedin the sequel. All this despite the fact that Scott did the same with almost impossible time-constraints, as the film was weeks away from release when the Spacey-Plummer switcheroo occurred. “Deadpool 2” lands in less than six months, but its producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Rotten Tomatoes that being in “final editing stages” would make it impossible for this to occur. In short, as she says: “I don’t think so.”

Last month, The Daily Beast had a detailed report of the allegations against Miller, which he has denied. Ever since starring in HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” Miller’s stock had been rising significantly and with not only a role in “Deadpool 2,” but also Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” due in March of this year, and the already wrapped “Underwater” starring Kristen Stewart. We currently don’t know how  “Ready Player One” helmers the WB and Spielberg will deal with Miller’s supporting role in that upcoming mega-blockbuster.

The Scott reshoots cost the studio more than $10 million, so it could also be a question of money, but is it worth keeping Miller and the toxicity that his reputation entails just to save a few million? However, unlike ‘All The Money,’ if Miller is involved in any complicated or details FX shoots which are already deep in post-production, swapping him out is much more complex affair.

“Deadpool 2” opens on June 1st.
