Got a Tip?

‘Altered Carbon’ Trailer: Leap 300 Years Into The Future In Joel Kinnaman’s Netflix Series

Given the political climate we’re living in these days, you might feel like leaving for another dimension. While science hasn’t cracked that nugget yet, Netflix can help you pretend to leap 300 years in the future with their ambitious sci-fi series, “Altered Carbon.”

Writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis (“Alita: Battle Angel,” “Shutter Island“) is behind the adaptation of Richard K. Morgan’s 2002 cyberpunk novel “Carbon,” which takes place in a future where human consciousness can be stored on digital implants, allowing people to essentially live forever by swapping into new bodies. Joel Kinnaman leads the series as an imprisoned revolutionary whose conscious has been awakened in a new body. If the premise wasn’t already a clue, the creators are aiming very high with this one.

“It’s very different than what else is out in this space,” Kalogridis told EW. “There’s some Philip K. Dick in there, William Gibson, obviously Ridley Scott, and actually some Orson Welles and John Huston. We tried to imagine what a potential globalized future on Earth would look like, with a certain amount of technological change, a certain amount of technological familiarity and a very large degree of human familiarity.”

“Altered Carbon” hits Netflix on February 2nd.
