“Strange Angel” first caught our eye when it was announced back in August of last year. The series, which is coming to CBS All Access, had director David Lowery attached, seeming like it could be something special and perhaps the first reason for non-“Star Trek” fans to purchase a subscription to the streaming service. However, since then, we haven’t heard much about it, until now.
Well, today comes news that “Strange Angel” is not only still a thing, but is actually going to premiere on CBS’ streaming service in June. Not only that, “A Ghost Story” director David Lowery, who was previously mentioned as attached to the project, will direct each of the 10 episodes. And when you hear the plot of the series, we guarantee you’re going to be interested.
“Strange Angel” follows the life of Jack Parsons. Starting from humble blue-collar beginnings, Parsons ended up being one of the foremost rocket engineers in the country. While that might be interesting enough to cover, the real kicker is that Parsons found himself entangled with famed occultist Aleister Crowley and was one of the practitioners of sex magick.
The series will star Jack Reynor, perhaps best known for his roles in “Sing Street” and “Glassland,” along with Bella Heathcote, Rupert Friend, Peter Mark Kendall, Michael Gaston, Greg Wise, Rade Šerbedžija, Zack Pearlman, and Keye Chen.
Unlike Netflix, CBS All Access doesn’t believe in the “release all at once” model for distribution. Even though the series will appear exclusively on their streaming service, CBS plans on releasing each episode weekly on Thursdays. This is the same model that they did for their first major series, “Star Trek: Discovery,” and since that series got picked up for a second season, it must be working.
“Strange Angel” will premiere on CBS All Access beginning on June 14.
