Got a Tip?

Chloë Grace Moretz Says New ‘Suspiria’ Is The “Closest To Modern Stanley Kubrick” She’s Ever Seen

Like many film fans, we’re excited, but also nervous, about Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming “Suspiria” remake. That isn’t to say that Guadagnino isn’t able to make a great film because clearly, judging just from last year’s “Call Me By Your Name,” the man knows how to direct. However, “Suspiria” is a classic film from a classic director, Dario Argento, and even with all the early buzz and the talent behind, and in front, of the camera, we still feel a bit of apprehension.

However, one person involved in the new “Suspiria” is not only excited for the new film to be released but also is willing to make some lofty claims about the film’s quality. While appearing at the Provincetown Film Festival, actress Chloë Grace Moretz talked about appearing in the new Guadagnino film, and what filmmaker comes to mind when describing how good the new “Suspiria” actually is.

The actress said (via IndieWire):

“This is a really big statement, but this is the closest to modern Stanley Kubrick I‘ve ever seen. You’re put into a world, which I can only describe it as being like ‘The Shining’ in a lot of ways, where you’re just encompassed in a filmmaker’s brain and you’re just implanted in there, and there’s nothing like it that you will ever see.”

When you first hear this, it’s hard to take it seriously. Will Guadagnino’s “Suspiria” be the next ‘Shining?’ Seems unlikely. However, when you take into consideration all the early word about the film, from people who have seen bits and pieces, as well as those involved who are endlessly raving about the production, it’s hard to not to get caught up in all the hype.

Moretz also spoke a bit more about her character in the film, Patricia Hingle. “Here’s the thing, it’s so secretive that it’s super locked down. It’s secretive and I want it to be secretive because you guys are gonna be so shocked. It is WILD. It’s crazy,” the actress said. “I can say this, I speak German mainly in the movie. So you won’t recognize me very well. I seem like a different person and I sound like a different person.”

The next several months are going to feel endless, as we wait for “Suspiria” to hit theaters. Joining Moretz in the cast is Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, and Mia Goth. The film will be released on November 2.
