‘Castle Rock’ Trailer: The Stephen King Cinematic Universe Comes Together As We Return To Shawshank

Not to be outdone by “Avengers: Infinity War,” the cinematic universe of Stephen King is coming together in the new Hulu series “Castle Rock.” And as seen in the new trailer, there’s plenty of creepy things going on in the small Maine town, and for those King aficionados, there’s a few Easter Eggs, as well.

The basic plot of the series, as seen in the trailer, revolves around a man who is called to come back to his hometown of Castle Rock, where a mysterious man, known only as “The Kid,” has appeared in Shawshank State Penitentiary (Yes, the very same one that was featured in “The Shawshank Redemption”). From there, the trailer is full of all sorts of haunting imagery and the promise of plenty of evil and death. You know, typical Stephen King.

For those that aren’t massive Stephen King fans, the fictional town of Castle Rock has been the setting of famous King works like “Cujo,” “The Dead Zone,” “The Dark Half,” and “Needful Things.” And you can find mentions of the town in many other works including “IT” and “Pet Sematary.”

“Castle Rock” is set to premiere on Hulu on July 25.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.
