Got a Tip?

Sorry, Fans, ‘Dark Phoenix’ Will Be Yet Another ‘X-Men’ Film To Ignore Jubilee

One of the running jokes (though unintentional) throughout the numerous ‘X-Men’ films is the lack of Jubilee. As a character in the films, Jubilee has been portrayed by three different actresses in four films, dating all the way back to the original “X-Men” film in 2000. However, not one of those actresses has yet to score any lines of dialogue, despite the character being one of the more famous mutants in the universe. Sadly, as Fox finishes out its ‘X-Men’ series with the upcoming “Dark Phoenix” (we’re going to assume Disney will reboot), the current Jubilee actress confirms that the streak of no dialogue will continue.

Speaking to Collider, actress Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in “X-Men: Apocalypse” confirmed that not only will Jubilee be silent in the film, but she’ll actually not even show up once, despite being a part of the previous film.

“No, I didn’t end up doing ‘Dark Phoenix’ ‘cause I was doing ‘To All the Boys,’” admitted the actress. “I hope ‘X-Men’ lives on so hopefully in the future I’ll be able to go back to that family because it’s where I feel very indebted and loyal to.”

That’s a complete shame for fans of the mutant superhero film series. Jubilee was a fixture in the ‘90s “X-Men: The Animated Series,” with her “Clueless”-esque personality and humor. And considering “Dark Phoenix” takes place in the heart of the ‘90s, what better time than now to finally give Jubilee her due. Alas, that won’t be the case.

As she mentioned, Condor decided to pursue (and rightfully so) the Netflix rom-com “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Obviously, that was the correct choice, as that film went on to become a massive hit for the streaming service and make Condor a household name for the younger demographic. That’s a lot more than ‘Apocalypse’ did, considering she was little more than set dressing that got to play a video game in a scene.

She joked about having such little to do in ‘Apocalypse,’ but also is thankful for the opportunity, “I know! It definitely feels amazing. It’s funny because I, of course, love ‘X-Men’ forever. ‘X-Men’ was such an incredible experience because I had never worked before, I was so excited to be there. I love Jubilee and I hope that in the future she’ll get her due…”

It appears that “X-Men” fans will have to wait for Disney to take over before they’ll actually, potentially at least, get a proper Jubilee on screen. Because it would appear that Fox, once again, dropped the ball.
