It’s hard to describe the upcoming EPIX series “Perpetual Grace, LTD.” in any sort of brevity. Sure, you could say that the series follows the attempt of two men to rob an older couple that runs a church. But then again, that’s only the tip of the iceberg.
As seen in the trailer for the series, there’s so much more to this new drama than just the robbery that gets the plot moving. Even the trailer seems to show the stark difference between the robbery aspect of the series and everything else that follows, as the music starts with a light-hearted bluegrass song but turns into something…darker towards the end. It’s right around the time that you discover that the old man that runs the church that’s about to be robbed (played by Ben Kingsley) isn’t the timid man you expect. No, he’s the type of man that would beat a guy half his age to death with his shoe.
“Perpetual Grace, LTD.” is a 10-episode limited series that comes from the mind of Steve Conrad, the man behind the recent Amazon series “Patriot.” In addition to Kingsley, the series stars Damon Herriman, Jacki Weaver, and Jimmi Simpson.
“Perpetual Grace, LTD.” premieres on EPIX on June 2.
Here’s the synopsis:
Perpetual Grace, LTD. is a 10-episode modern noir drama from MGM Television, which follows James (Emmy® award nominee Jimmi Simpson), a young grifter, as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown (Academy Award® winner Sir Ben Kingsley), who turns out to be far more dangerous than he suspects. The pastor and his wife Lillian (Academy Award® nominee Jacki Weaver)—known to their parishioners as Pa and Ma—have used religion to bilk hundreds of innocent people out of their life savings.
