Got a Tip?

‘Breaking Bad’ Star Aaron Paul Keeps Mum About Sequel Film But Says If It Exists, “It Has To Star Jesse”

Last year, it was revealed that series creator Vince Gilligan was going to write and direct a spin-off film that would serve as a sequel to his Emmy-winning “Breaking Bad.” At the time, details were scarce, as all we knew is that it would follow the character Jesse Pinkman and pick up right where the series left off. Oh, and production was supposedly set to begin in November 2018 and run until mid-February of this year. But according to star Aaron Paul, he’s not even aware of the film, to begin with. Say what?

Speaking at a recent Variety event, Paul was asked about the still-not-confirmed “Breaking Bad” film, which has the working title “Greenbrier.”

“Rumors are funny — I once heard a rumor that I was being cast as Han Solo,” Paul said. “I haven’t heard anything about the ‘Breaking Bad’ movie but if there is one and it comes together I’d love to be a part of it.” “If it were to happen, yes, I would love to do it.”

When he was pressed even more about what he thinks might be the story of a potential sequel, all Paul would say that it would make sense that he would star. (Even though he’s already been named the star by a variety of outlets.)

“In case you haven’t caught up on the TV series, Walter dies, so….it has to star Jesse,” explained Paul.

Now, it’s clear that the actor is keeping his involvement in the film very close to the vest. Obviously, in the day and age of social media, actors and filmmakers are going to extremes to make sure no spoilers or leaks occur during filming. So, it makes sense that Paul would play coy about details. But he does go the extra step of not even confirming the existence of the film. Hell, his “Breaking Bad” co-star Bryan Cranston has already done that.

Hopefully, if the production schedule was accurate, we’ll see more information about the sequel film coming soon. Perhaps, we’ll even get a 2019 release date.
